What is allstar cheer and dance? Allstar cheer and dance teams are formed strictly for the purpose of competing. Team members may also be on a school or recreation team. Allstar teams require a high level of commitment from the team members and their parents. This is due to demanding practice schedules and the cost of attending competitions. The cost can vary from team to team depending on the number of competitions they attend and whether or not travel is required. For more information on Allstar cheerleading, click here to access a packet created by the United States All Star Federation entitled "Cheer Parents 101." This information was compiled by allstar parents and coaches to provide as much information as possible to prospective allstar parents.
At G-Force, we usually hold allstar tryouts in May. The team level will determine the skills required to be selected for the team. These levels are established by the United States All Star Federation. Once selected to be on a team, members must attend classes throughout the summer; however, the rigorous practice schedule doesn't begin until August or September. Practice attendance is mandatory with few exceptions.
Can your child be on a school team and an allstar team? Usually, yes. It depends a lot on the school sponsor. Unfortunately school sponsors often feel threatened by allstar teams as competing for their cheerleaders. In fact, allstar teams provide numerous and often immeasurable benefits to team members. Not only does it develop teamwork and sportsmanship, the training produces incredible athletes that can prove nothing but a huge asset to a school squad. You will need to discuss this with your school sponsor to find out if it is possible. A defined practice schedule at your school is almost a must in that practices called at the last minute may interfere with your allstar team practice. Our practice schedule never changes unless we add a practice that works for every team member's schedule maybe a week or two before a competition.
What are the costs? Training, uniform, choreography, music, competition fees and travel. Again, the amounts vary from gym to gym and team to team. If you attend 8 to 10 competitions in a year, the cost can run as high as $2000, excluding travel fees. The fewer competitions you attend, the lower the cost.
